The word “organic” means all of the ingredients in Nature Safe are derived from natural sources. Nature Safe contains no manure or sewage sludges. The natural ingredients found in Nature Safe are animal proteins such as feather, bone, meat, fish, poultry and blood meals. The same quality ingredients used by turf professionals and gardening enthusiasts for years.

Nature Safe 5-6-6, 8-3-5, 8-5-5, 9-0-9, 10-0-8, 10-2-8 and 13-0-0 are 100% all natural and organic. The high quality proteins used in Nature Safe are found in the best selling pet foods in the country. Your pet will not get sick after eating a small amount of any of these products. If your pet shows any signs of illness, contact your local veterinarian or poison control center.

Nature Safe product 12-2-6 is blended with ammonium sulfate. 15-0-8 is blended with Methylene Urea. 21-3-7 and 27-2-2 are blended with UFLEXX™ stabilized nitrogen. Call your local veterinarian and poison control center for information about immediate treatment for your pet.

Organic fertilizers are actually feeding the soil, not just the plant. The fertilizer provides nutrients to the soil, which in turn feeds the roots of the plant, thus producing a healthier lawn or garden. Nature Safe also contains humus and organic matter that hold nutrients, as well as water, making them available to the plant as needed. This results in fewer applications of fertilizer and can reduce the need to water, especially during the high stress summer months.

You will never find a more user friendly fertilizer than the Nature Safe line. Since Nature Safe has a low salt index, it will not burn your lawn or turf. For best results, we recommend doubling your Nature Safe application rate after aeration in the spring or fall.

With Nature Safe, you don’t need to worry about skin irritation or other side effects that may be encountered with chemical fertilizers. There is absolutely no need to ban your family and pets from playing on your lawn.

All fertilizers are described in terms of N-P-K value, or the amount of Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potash in each bag. Nitrogen is primarily responsible for the color and growth of the plant. Phosphorus is beneficial for the development of the plant and root system, while Potash is necessary for proper seed development and improving stem strength. In addition to N-P-K, Nature Safe consists of a host of trace minerals, micronutrients and biostimulant sources to provide balanced nutrition for your soil and lawn.

Nature Safe products do not contain chemicals used to kill weeds. Instead, weeds are naturally controlled as the turf thickens. Our program is built on the concept of promoting healthy plant growth. If weeds are a concern, use a “spot” treatment program, in which the weed killer is applied directly to the affected area only.

As of 2010, Griffin Industries is a wholly owned subsidiary of Darling International. The company was founded in 1943 by John L. Griffin and was called Falmouth Fertilizer Company. The name of the company changed to Griffin Industries in the 1960s.

OMRI stands for the Organic Materials Review Institute. This organization approves products for use in the production of organic food and fiber. Nature Safe products 5-6-6 Starter Fertilizer, 8-3-5 Stress Guard Fertilizer, 8-5-5 Landscape Fertilizer and 10-2-8 and 13-0-0 Blending Base are OMRI listed fertilizers.

Nature Safe fertilizers are made from feed grade quality meals inclusive of meals from blood, bone, feather, fish, meat and grain by-products – the same ingredients used to make pet food. These meals supply the food energy of feed and stimulates the natural soil microbes which aid in the breakdown of the product. Sewer sludge fertilizers are formulated with human and industrial waste by-products and are high in denatured proteins. Denatured proteins offer some initial color response from the iron found in this product, but mainly add organic biomass to the soil.

A starter fertilizer, such as Nature Safe’s 5-6-6 is ideal for new seedling establishment, ornamental planting and color beds. It has been designed for the development of healthy roots. This homogeneous slow-release, non-burning fertilizer also contains humus which conditions the soil and increases water retention. 5-6-6 increases seeding vigor and helps keep fertilizers from leaching through the soil. It is recommended for seeding, sprigging or overseeding.

Humus is soil organic matter which has the ability to buffer plants against too high concentration of salts. It improves the Cation Exchange Capacity of the soil and enhances uptake of phosphates and other essential micronutrients.

There are a broad array of application opportunities for Nature Safe. We recommend you match the amount of nutrition that you are targeting to the corresponding Nature Safe formulation. If unsure about application rates, we suggest you consult your local county extension agent for specific recommendations.

Note: Nature Safe is not intended to be fed to animals and should be stored in a dry, cool location, out of reach of pets and children. However, if your pet did consume Nature Safe, read the label on the fertilizer to determine if it was an all organic or fortified (with an inorganic nitrogen source) organic product. If the product is all organic (designated with an OMRI Listed notation), this material is derived entirely from plant and animal proteins and a natural potash source. Although the product is derived from animal feed ingredients along with a potash source, it is an extremely concentrated protein source and can cause vomiting and diarrhea. In the case of our fortified organic products (there will be a notation on the bag under the formulation regarding whether the product is fortified with ammonium sulfate, methylene urea or UFLEXX™), monitor your pet’s reaction.
